Fruit Flies

Do fruit flies keep coming back after you get rid of them? Your drain may be the issue. Tape over it with some plastic wrap for a couple of days and look for any fruit flies that may pop up. If so, pour boiling water into the drains, and give them a good cleaning. This will stop the breeding of the fruit flies.

Spraying bees, wasps, and hornets with hairspray can be a good way to kill them. There are numerous chemicals in hairspray that will not only kill insects, but repel them as well.

Have an ant infestation? Eliminate them with borax and sugar. The scent of the sugar will draw them into the deadly borax. Mix a cup of the sugar with an equal amount of the borax. Poke holes through the lid and then sprinkle the mixture around the foundation of your home and along baseboards.

If you have pest problems in rooms with sinks, check your drains. Keep all of your drains clean and running smoothly in all parts of your house. A leak can also rot wood, which is a major attractant to some pests. After you clear them, check regularly for clogs.

No matter whether you can see signs of infestation or not, have the entire residence examined anyway. If you have a basement, for example, you might have a subterranean termite infestation and not even know it. Be sure to have crawl spaces and basements inspected.

Dispose of fallen trees around your yard. You can even cut up the trunk or branches and use it for firewood. It can be used by you or given away. Do not neglect to get rid of the stump, as well. Stumps can easily attract termites to your home.

Cockroaches are attracted to all kinds of food. Other foods that should be kept in a good containers include sugar, flour and baking ingredients.

If you are having a problem with silverfish, this tip may prove quite useful. Leave out a wet newspaper in your home overnight. Overnight, a large number of silverfish will collect on to the paper. In the morning, slip the damp newspaper into a plastic bag quickly. Seal it and set it in the sun for a day. Then put it in the trash.

Use caulk to seal up cracks if you find out you have a problem with bugs. Foggers and bug spray cannot get into the deep recesses of walls and many of the other favorite habitats of pests. So, seal these areas off to prevent bugs. Use caulk around drain entry points, at molding spaces and any other small areas where bug can come in.

Fight your fight against wasp nests and beehives at night. You may have to get rid of a bee hive using an exterminator. The foam will spray quite a way, so you don’t have to stand too close to the hive. It is wise to spray hives in the evening when bees are less active, and watch closely to see if more spraying is needed. After you’re completely sure that all the bees have died, you can remove the hive.

Solicit advice from neighbors. Your neighbor might be having the same problem you are. You can share ideas and come up with a better way to control pests. You may also want to provide your neighbors with some warning of a problem.

Keep flowers at a distance from your home’s entrance. If doable, use tiles to cover the ground area around your house to keep pests away. Then you can worry less about letting bugs into your home when you open the windows.
